iPhone Love and Hate #1

I Wish My iPhone…

… could paste into the Phone app after a call connects. You can paste into the Keypad of the Phone app, but only before starting the call. Sometimes I need to dial into a bridge line for work. I typically tap on the bridge line number in an e-mail or calendar entry to dial the bridge line, then after the call connects, I need to input a 6 or 10 digit number. I really wish I could paste this number in rather than having to re-type it.

I Love That My iPhone…

… lets me add nicknames to my contacts. I frequently use Voice Control to dial my iPhone. You can call anyone in your address book by saying “Call” followed by their first name, last name, and phone label (eg. home, work, or mobile). You can replace the first name and last name with a nickname if you’ve added the field to a contact in your address book. To add a nickname, edit the contact, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and tap add field. On the Add Field page, choose the Nickname field, and then enter in your desired nickname.

Here are some sample nicknames that I’ve added. I’ve added ‘dad’, ‘mom’, and ‘Julie’1.
